Ami Marsden
Ami Marsden is an accomplished sculptor who works in a variety of materials from wood and metal to material and cardboard. As well as taking commissions of all sizes from both public and private sectors, she runs workshops and does carving demonstrations for schools and communities alike.
My work celebrates the combination of different materials through using the human figure as a subject for expression. There is a certain juxtaposing relationship or marriage between wood and metal, plaster and fibreglass and the use of drawing onto three dimensions.
Being naturally autobiographical, these materials speak of moods and characters setting a certain tone to the pieces. I also use every-day objects such as the legs of a chair or bench, which give a balance to the found pieces, hand carved and charred.
